Many women start to experience symptoms of perimenopause in their late 30s and early 40s as their hormones begin to change. Symptoms can include physiologic changes such as fatigue, hot flashes, vaginal dryness or pain in addition to new feelings of anxiety, insomnia and forgetfulness. Every woman's experience of perimenopause and ultimately menopause is unique based on her underlying levels of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Therefore HRT is not a one size fits all solution. Rather every woman needs a customized HRT in order to bring her unique levels back into balance for overall wellbeing.
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is felt to be a safer option compared to more traditional prescribed synthetic hormones for several reasons. One they are made from yams and soybeans rather than synthetic compounds so that their structure is much more similar to our own hormones. Two, customized and compounded bioidentical hormones seek to restore balance based on specialized hormone testing to deliver the appropriate doses for each woman. Three, bioidentical HRT can be delivered via several routes depending on each woman's needs such as capsules or topical creams.
