An Integrative Approach to Optimal Health

Frequently Asked Questions

Functional Medicine is a field of medicine that attempts to uncover the root cause(s) of illness. It is based on the knowledge that only by treating the root cause(s) of illness can we achieve true healing and optimal health. This differs from a more traditional western approach that focuses on identification of a disease and often looks to prescription medications to alleviate symptoms. The problem that arises with the latter approach is that medications often lead to side effects, creating the need for more medications. In addition the prescription did not address the cause(s) of the disease.
Integrative Medicine is a field of medicine that focuses on the whole person rather than on the disease alone. It incorporates conventional and evidence based alternative approaches that take into account not only a person's presenting physical symptoms but also the spiritual, psychological and social aspects of health and illness. At the center of integrative medicine is the supportive provider-patient relationship and the shared goal of achieving optimal health and healing.
No, I require that you still have your primary care doctor for your age appropriate screening studies and for acute health issues.
At this time I do not accept insurance. Unfortunately the current medical system would not allow me sufficient time per patient for a comprehensive history, requisite laboratory evaluations for understanding all potential contributing factors to achieve optimal health and customization of an individual treatment plan.

Payment for services rendered is due at the time of the office visit.

Please be courteous and arrive on time. Please also provide a minimum of 48 hours cancellation notice; a cancellation fee will be charged for a no-show.
Anticipate that your initial consultation will last anywhere from 60-90 minutes. During this visit you will meet with Dr. Silver to obtain a detailed health history in addition to reviewing the new patient questionnaire forms, all outside labs and current medication/supplements that you are taking. Please make sure you fill out the new patient forms located under the Resource tab and bring with you copies of prior lab results (2-3 years) and your medication/supplement bottles.

After this initial intake, Dr. Silver will make recommendations with you about the best next steps. These can include: specialty labs, conventional labs, medications, nutritional supplements, diet, exercise and other life-style recommendations.

After this initial assessment Dr. Silver will review with you these recommendations to solicit any questions you may have and to ensure that you and she are in agreement. Lastly, a follow up visit will be scheduled to review all new lab results and to solidify a treatment plan.
Test results are often difficult to interpret on your own which is why these are reviewed together with the patient at the scheduled follow up visit.
